This happened driving back from Dallas the other day. The tire had been shaking a bit with what I thought was just a balancing problem. Instead, the tire was coming apart! When it gave way, it made a terrible racket. I was able to pull into a gas station and replace it with the spare before it shredded itself and blew out.

Thankfully this happened while I was driving, so my wife didn't have to deal with it. As of yesterday we have four new Michelins on the car.
